Evening Herald : 02/06/07 Home kit for women’s sex disease test.  Irish women can now test themselves for sexual diseases in the secrecy of their own home – for just €22.00 The Medical Test Centre – an Irish online company with offices based on Ormond Quay – has the female Chlamydia test for sale on their website. And hundreds of people have flocked to the site – which promises discretion and next day delivery. This test offers instant results just minutes after women test themselves for the disease, which can seriously affect a woman’s fertility if left undiagnosed. The company offers a range of home tests for sexual diseases. Tests available include a male Chlamydia test, a Chlamydia & Gonorrhea test, a unisex test for syphilis, and a unisex test for gonorrhea.  While the female Chlamydia test offers instant results, the rest of the tests require samples to be sent to fully accredited British laboratory. But most of the results from these tests are available after five days. A spokesperson for the Medical Test Centre told the evening Herald the company was established 18 months of and business is growing every month. “Maybe it is just making health care a little more accessible, but it is not meant to replace proper medical care in any way,” a spokesperson said when asked why the services is so popular. “In some situations, people are afraid to go to their local chemists, to buy a pregnancy test even, let alone visit a doctor whom perhaps, they have going to since they were just children.” “But this is just the first stage in the treatment of any STD. Our advice is still to go and see a doctor and get proper care” the spokesperson added.
